I will be using an adaptation of the Ullman technique at the Mystic South conference as well at the Celebrating Life Gathering @ the Common Woods. Here follows an outline of how I will adapt the Ullman technique and then a description.
I. Introductions and brief remarks and guidelines II. Grounding exercise III. Dream share IV. Selection and Clarification Round with active imagination. V. Jungian Amplification VI. Action steps I. Guidelines will be explained further below. II. We will participate in a basic somatic body scanning meditation accompanied by drumming or singing bowl. This is in preparation for the sharing / active imagination round. III. Depending on number of participants, ideally every single person will have a change to share a dream and other participants will envision what is being shared as if it was their own experience, using active imagination. During this round there will be no interruptions. If there is a large group of participants, each person will share only the title of a dream. IV. During this round, we will select a dream randomly to discuss, as long as the dreamer consents. Other participants will ask questions of the dreamer in order to get a clear picture of the dream, for the purposes of active imagination. V. During this round, participants will give their personal responses to the dream as if it were their dream. Remarks will be prefaced by "if I had this dream" or "as my dream", etc. There will be no personal remarks directed towards the dreamer. Responses will be drawn from the collective unconscious (archetypes, mythology, symbolism, etc.) VI. The dreamer will give their response and consider any future action step. Dr. Thomas Yun will be facilitating a collective dream work experience at Mystic South on July 15, 2023. For more information about Mystic South please click here.
Dr. Yun will use methods from instruction from the Institute for Dream Studies that will allow for a group process to avoid projections. Using a group process we will seek common themes which connect the community. In these times, our conscious minds can easily divide us from one another and even ourselves, but our subconscious draws from the same source. Dr. Yun is a board-certified psychiatrist who practices at a charity clinic in Atlanta, GA. To learn more about the Institute for Dream Studies click here.
